Depending upon the interest and involvement of the volunteer, the following opportunities are available to our volunteers. Check out our calendar and/or contact your Membership Manger for more information.

Outdoor Training

Learn basic outdoor skills in this course; including safety, outdoor cooking, camp set up, knife safety and basic knots. This course prepares you to take a Girl Scout troop on an overnight experience that meets the following criteria:

  • Overnight is planned by your troop
  • Participants may sleep outdoors
  • Troop will cook outdoors
  • Troop will be able to build an outdoor fire and cook with propane or charcoal
  • Troop will travel within GSMW’s boundaries or be approved by GSMW headquarters
  • Overnight lasts no more than two nights
First Aid/CPR

First Aid & CPR Course is taught by certified instructors. The course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Course content includes general principles, medical emergencies, and injury emergencies along with CPR for adults and children. A qualified First-Aider must be present at all Girl Scout activities.

Journey Training

Learn the benefits of the Girl Scout Journeys for both volunteers and girls. Learn how Journeys make it easier for volunteers to inspire and motivate girls in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. In this workshop, participants will use the girl books and adult guides and learn about ready-made resources, tips to customize the Journey, and how to connect existing badges and awards to the Journey and the Leadership Experience.

Take Action

A face-to-face vehicle for dissecting the Take Action portion of the GSLE, demonstrating specifically how Take Action differs from community service.

Grade-level Workshops

What is unique about a Daisy? Brownie? Junior? Cadet? Senior? Or Ambassador? Each of these workshops is geared toward a specific grade level to assist you in understanding the characteristics of girls at each level and the different needs of each group. Learn about characteristics for each program level as well as the likes and needs that make each group different. Explore troop management, traditions, program ideas and awards that can be earned in each grade level. Discover tools to engage the girls you are working while brainstorming activities, success stories and ideas with your peers to create a quality Girl Scout experience for every girl.

Day Camp Director Training

This training will prepare the volunteer to oversee development and implement all aspects of a volunteer-run day camp program that is consistent with GSUSA and Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming policies. The training involves staff recruitment, supervision, logistics, safety, budgeting, activities, and all forms required for the camp.

Songs and Games

This course explores the history of singing, resources available, and prepares the participant to lead songs and games for others that are age appropriate. Activities are connected to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and conducted within the Girl Scout guidelines.

Ceremonies

Learn the “why” and “how” of conducting ceremonies in Girl Scouts. Explore the types of ceremonies in Girl Scouting and choose those that are appropriate for the girl’s age and the occasion. Lead and assist girls in planning successful ceremonies while linking to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Program Planning Workshop

From healthy living to experiencing the outdoors to arts and financial literacy, Girl Scouts offers a diverse range of programs to provide positive growing and learning experiences for girls. Get creative juices flowing in this three hour workshop designed to facilitate volunteers in planning events and programs. Participants will explore and share ideas for creating programs that are engaging, innovative, and appealing to girls while learning about the benefits of planning and conducing programs and events in Girl Scouts. Discuss tips and tools, learn how to connect programs and events to the Leadership Experience and spend time with colleagues brainstorming opportunities to partner with girls and others in the community to develop programs. The training will equip volunteers with tools to inspire and motivate others in their area to expand programs and develop connections.
