Volunteer Training Opportunities

One of the many ways that Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming supports its valued volunteers is by offering a wide range of quality training opportunities in a comfortable and fun learning environment. Volunteers learn new skills that will help them deliver life-changing Girl Scout leadership experiences and enhance their own personal and professional lives. We offer three types of training: On-line, self-study and face to face to best meet your individual learning style and schedule.

What type of course is best for my learning style?

  • Online Courses (on-line) are a good option for people who like to read and work on the computer and the internet. This is done at your own pace, and feedback on questions asked is immediate.
  • Home Study Courses (self-study) are a good option for people who learn well through reading, researching and writing on their own. You will print out the materials located on the website, and the work is done at home at your own pace. An answer sheet will be returned to the Council office for review and then you will be notified of the results.
  • In-Person Courses (face to face) are great for auditory learners and those who prefer a more hands on approach to learning where they can get feedback and ask questions. You may register for multiple courses in one order before you check out to complete your registration.

The Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) engages girls in discovering themselves, connecting with others, and taking action to make the world a better place. It is the model for everything girls do in Girl Scouting. The GSLE is based on a definition of leadership that girls understand and believe in: a leader, girls say, is defined not only by the qualities and skills one has, but by how those qualities and skills are used to make a difference in the world. The Leadership Essentials course provides information to help your girls develop leadership skills, it includes an overview of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, and teaches how to effectively partner with your girls to make their plans & goals a reality. You’ll also learn how to be able to see the impact you have on girls’ lives by thinking about outcomes.
Journeys/Girls Guide (face to face)
Journeys are the core national program of Girl Scouting and are based on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. This means each journey has girls using Girl Scouting’s three keys to leadership: Discover, Connect, and Take Action. As the core Girl Scout program, journeys tie to the 15 national Girl Scout leadership outcomes and the three processes (Girl Led, Learning by Doing, and Cooperative Learning) that make Girl Scouting distinct from school and other activities. This course is designed to help:
  • Negotiate the “How to Guide…” books through tips and suggestions from individuals who have successfully presented the journeys to girls.
  • Use the new Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting with information about exciting new badges, the 100th Anniversary handbook, and much more!
