Geocaching with STARBASE-Great Falls (Grades 4-5)

Hey, Junior Girl Scouts! Who is ready to search for hidden treasures? Join us for this fun-filled series designed to get you outdoors on a high-tech, real-world treasure hunt! Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices, and one of the fastest growing games in recent history.

On the first day of this three-part series, Junior Girl Scouts will learn Geocaching history and terminology, how to use a GPS unit, how to find a cache, and much more. STARBASE will be bringing computers and showing girls how to use the Engineering Design Process to design and print a SWAP (also called a 'token' in geocaching terminology) on their 3-D printer. Then it's time to get outside and find a nearby cache! There are over 200 caches located in and around Great Falls!

Session 1: May 7 - Intro to Geocaching, learn how to find a cache
Session 2: May 14 - Design your group's 'token'
Session 3: May 21 - Find a cache with GPS unit and leave your token

All girls who complete the 3-part series will earn the Junior Geocaching Badge. Cost of the program includes the Junior Geocaching Badge and a light snack at each session. Space is limited so please be sure that you can attend all three sessions before registering for this series.

This three-session series is conducted by the educators of DOD STARBASE from the Montana Air National Guard base in Great Falls.

Please note that Tag-a-Longs are not allowed at this event.

Program registration deadlines are extremely important for our council.

Knowing the number of girls attending our programs in advance helps us:
  • Determine the number of adults to meet the girl/adult ratio.
  • Allow time to order materials and badges needed.
  • Decide if registration numbers meet the minimum required to hold the program.
  • Have time to mail confirmation letters or cancellation letters.

Visit our FAQs page for information on refunds and other policies.
