CSI - Overnight at STARBASE-Cheyenne (Grades 4-12)
CSI is more than a popular TV series. Crime scene investigators use many aspects of science to crack important cases. Scouts will learn how to gather clues using real fingerprinting, fiber analysis and shoe prints. Once they master the steps, they are sent off to solve a 'crime' on their own! Stories, movies, and television are full of amazing detectives solving mysteries and bringing criminals to justice. Their jobs are important, exciting, and take serious skills-skills you can try at CSI-Overnight. Grab your magnifying glass and dive into the science of detecting!
Put your mystery solving skills to work! Join fellow Girl Scouts and their moms as they work together to solve the 'Case of the Lost Skull'. Outside STARBASE, person or persons unknown have left an animal skull stuffed with cash! Next to it are a shoe print and other traces of their passing scattered around the area. Who could have left it there?
Badge work is included in this interactive event. Junior girls-those in 5th grade - will have completed their detective badge.
Cadette girls (grades 6-8) will be well on their way to earning their special agent badge.
The evening will kick off with a pizza party and welcome. We will meet with staff from the Wyoming State Crime Lab and talk about real life applications and careers in forensic science. This will be followed by a mystery to solve, which will be hands on to include: fingerprinting, chromatography, skull analysis, hair and fiber analysis stations. We will also spend the evening exploring STARBASE in the dark, with some flashlight tag and use flashlights to talk in code. As a special treat, we will have ice cream made with liquid nitrogen. In the morning, we will enjoy a light breakfast.
