Winter Olympics Dogsledding-Lolo (Grades K-12)
In honor of the 2014 Winter Olympics, Girl Scouts of MT & WY is hosting winter sports programs to promote healthy living and outdoor adventure! Attend two GSMW 'Winter Olympics' programs and earn a 'Girl Scout Gold Medal'. Check www.gsmw.org for more Winter Olympics programs.
The women dogsled mushers of the Bitterroot Mushers are returning to the Lolo area for an afternoon of dogsledding. Their appearance at Winter Fun Day last year was such a huge hit, we've arranged for a program just about dogsledding! Meet the excitable and athletic sled dogs, learn about the awesome adventure sport, and then take a dog sled ride with an experienced musher. Girls and adults alike will enjoy mingling with the dogs and mushers and enjoy some hot cocoa while taking in the cool winter mountain air. Sign up early - there is limited space!
Girls and adults should come prepared in full winter apparel including water resistant jackets, pants, gloves, hats, and sturdy, insulated and water-resistant snow boots. GSMW will provide hot cocoa, helmets, and a light snack.
Due to limited parking space at the dogsledding site, we will meet in the parking lot directly in front of Lolo Hot Springs where we will car pool up to East Fork road (less than two miles up the pass from the hot springs). At the end of the event, we will carpool back to the Hot Springs. Hot springing after the program is not required, but it is highly recommended to beat the chill. Parents, troop leaders, and girls must arrange hot springing on their own.
This event is open to girls in grades K-12 and registered supervising adults. Parents can attend if they are Girl Scout members - memberships only cost $15 for the entire year!
