Explore, Hike and Take Action in Glacier National Park - Glacier National Park (Grades 9-12)

Are you the kind of girl who loves adventure and also wants to make a difference in the world? Do you love to be in the outdoors? If so, apply for this opportunity to join two Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming staff who have extensive outdoor experience and will be guiding this week of adventure for girls.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of the USA, Glacier National Park in northwest Montana will be hosting girls from Montana and Wyoming during the summer of 2012. Girls will work alongside Glacier National Park staff performing a service project. This travel opportunity begins on Sunday, July 29 and concludes on Saturday, August 4. During the week, Monday through Wednesday, girls will be working 5 hours each day on the service project. During their free time girls will be going on hikes in the park that may be anywhere from 3-9 miles. They will hike to see the glaciers during the day and sing around the campfire at night. Girls' interests will guide their activities.

Girls must be in good physical condition and comfortable working in the outdoors to complete the service project that is assigned to their group. All food, tents and cooking equipment will be provided. Girls will be cooking all of their own meals. Girls must provide their own transportation to and from Glacier National Park at the location of the service project which will be determined by the park staff. Once girls arrive, transportation in the park will be provided.

Twelve girls will be chosen to attend based on the answers to the application questions. Girls who are interested in attending will need to submit a GSMW registration form along with the answers to the 5 Application Questions.. All girls will be notified of acceptance shortly after applying. This opportunity will be offered to Girl Scouts nationwide. No payment should accompany the registration form initially. Once girls have been accepted payment in full is expected. All participants are required to complete a National Park Service Volunteer Agreement form and submit the form to GSMW once their registration is confirmed. (This form will be sent from the Council).

If girls have a friend who wants to join them for this special opportunity, they are able to participate by paying the Girl Scout membership fee of $12 and should follow the same application procedures.
