Take Action in Glacier National Park Week 4 - Glacier National Park (Grades 6-12)

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of the USA, Glacier National Park in northwest Montana will be hosting troops from Montana and Wyoming during the summer of 2012. Troops will work alongside Glacier National Park staff performing service projects that may include removal of non-native plants, building picnic tables, painting historic structures, and other projects still to be determined.

Troops will be given entrance fee waivers and a free group campsite during their stay. Girls will arrive in the park on Sunday, July 15, perform 5 hours of service work each day, Monday through Wednesday, and will have Thursday and Friday to explore and enjoy the park. Troops will depart on Saturday, July 21. Troops are responsible for bringing their own camping equipment, tents, cooking supplies, food and for transportation in the park. As with all Girl Scout camping experiences, one adult must have outdoor training and be First Aid/CPR certified.

Each youth and adult will receive a special limited-edition Glacier National Park Centennial Service Patch as well as the Girl Scout Ranger patch.

These special service project opportunities are being offered first to Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming. Registration is on a first come-first serve basis. This week long opportunity is open to Girl Scouts nationally. Girl Scouts from other councils will need to mail or fax in their registrations. All participants are required to complete a National Park Service Volunteer Agreement form and submit the form to GSMW once their registration is confirmed. (This form will be sent from the Council).

Girls and adults must be in good physical condition and comfortable working in the outdoors to complete the service project that is assigned to their group. If girls have a friend who wants to join them for this special opportunity, they are able to participate by paying the Girl Scout membership fee of $12. Troops may join together for this project as long as they do not exceed the maximum number of girls allowed.

Gather your troop and have a fabulous week having fun and doing service in Glacier National Park this summer!

This event is open to girls in grades 6-12 and supervising adults.
