In Sidney, Montana, Girl Scout Junior Troop 2433 came together during the 2011 Cookie Program and decided to donate 50 percent of their cookie proceeds to Sidney Elementary West Side School’s fund for a new playground.
The girls met and exceeded their financial goals, raising nearly $500 for the local school.
Students and community members are hoping to raise $200,000 in total to purchase new playground equipment for the elementary school. Though the girls will be moving into middle school next year, after discussing earning the Model Citizen badge and how they could “help out” in their community, they unanimously voted to work for this project. The Girl Scouts knew that the donation would benefit other students, including younger Girl Scouts and siblings.
