Troop #1175 from Story, Wyoming and their Dabis traveled to Washington DC for the Rock the Mall event. This once-in-a-lifetime event was the perfect reason to visit D.C. for a week and take in some sights.
Rock the Mall was HUGE! Upwards of 250,000 Girl Scouts, family and friends were on the National Mall on June 9. The girls had a blast meeting troops from other states and traded S.W.A.P.S. with troops from 35 other states, including one troop from England!
Dabi and the girls got a taste of public transportation, becoming pros at using the buses and subways by the end of their stay.
One of their first stops was the White House, which doesn’t allow photos. The group’s next stop was the National Museum of Crime and Punishment, highlighting everything from medieval torture tactics to psychology of criminals to famous crimes to prisons and great escapes!
The museum also sports a crime scene and forensics lab where tourists can play investigator. Dabi was found at the scene of two crimes! She took in all her observations and reported back to the troop. Together, they solved the crime.
Dabi also traveled with the girls to the Capitol building and got her photo taken with the troop and a sculpture depicting women’s suffrage. They checked out the National Treasury and Lincoln’s Monument, visited the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum where they enjoyed the exhibits as well as the planetarium and the IMAX theater.
The group also visited Arlington National Cemetery, but out of respect, did not take photos with Dabi there.
Troop leader Cookie Marcus reports, “All in all, our troop and Dabi had a great adventure and will remember this for a long time!”
